Governor Ashe raises delays in contractor payments issue at BBG meeting
BBG Watch Announcement: we will report shortly on the BBG restructuring issues discussed at the January 13 meeting.
BBG Watch is happy to report that the issue of long delays in payments to contract employees was raised at today’s Broadcasting Board of Governors meeting by BBG Governor Victor Ashe. BBG Watch has been reporting on this issue for quite some time and published appeals from Voice of America contract employees to help them get paid. Ashe has asked IBB Director Richard Lobo to resolve this problem. Lobo reported during the meeting that he had met with a group of contract employees and listened to their complaints. At the BBG meeting, Ashe was trying to get Lobo to describe some of these complaints, but Lobo provided only very general comments. At that point, Ashe raised the delays in payments issue.
Due to Ashe’s earlier intervention, Lobo will now have to provide the Board with a written report on the appalling [our characterization] treatment of BBG’s contract employees. Lobo obviously did not want those watching the BBG meeting online to know what he had learned from listening to the contractors’concerns and complaints.
BBG Watch wants to thank Governor Ashe for his actions on this issue.
